Plate Load Test as Per IS:1888-1982

👷We are Conduct Plate Load Test for  Minor Bridge where required SBC-150 kn/m2🚧

Step-1
First survey the site area and selected a suitable location for test pit as decided by Engineer or mentioned in Drawing.

Step-2
Marked the area and clean or excavation as required for locate to the foundation bed level or pcc bottom level.
Step-3
Filled Sand bags for Loading arrangement as required for achieve the dead loads
Step-4
Prepared the dead load structure by using sand bags, ISB (We are used 300 & 250mm), shuttering plate or any other suitable methods as required to achieve ultimat load

Step-5
###Calculation###
                                                DEAD LOAD CALCULATION

Sl. No Descriptions of load Unit Weight Total Weight (Kg)
1 Sand Bags-530 nos 25 kg/Bags 13250
2 ISMB:125- 7nos and 7 m eatch length=49 m 13.3 kg/m 652
3 ISMB:300- 1nos and 6 m eatch length=6 m 46 kg/m 276

Total Dead Load= 14178

                                LOAD CALCULATION FOR LOADING PLATFORM

1> Required SBC =150 KN/M2
2> Hence, Ultimate Bearing Capacity = 150 X 2.5 = 375 KN/M2
3> Plate Size= 450 mm X 450 mm = 0.2025 M2
4> Ultimate Load on Plate= 375 X 0.2025 = 75.94 say 76 KN
5> Load Increment ( REF. to Clause No. 4.6 of IS 1888-1982)
*20 % of Ultimate load = 375 x 0.2 =75 KN/M2
* Load increment for above mentioned plate= 75 X 0.2025 = 15.2 KN
6> Initial Load applied ( REF. to Clause No. 4.5.2 of IS 1888-1982)
*70 gm/cm2 = 7 KN/M2
*Load Applied on Plate = 7 X 0.2025 = 1.42 KN

Step-6
Place the base plate over a fine sand layer (5mm max thick) at center of the main ISM 300 (load carrying girder at center of stage) and centering by using plumb bob & spirit level.

Step-7
After finish the plate installation adjustment hight are place above the plate carefully.
Then hydrolic jack place properly that the load from bead transfer through jack to plate.
**If water come over plate or test location from ground then remove water by pumping

Here's the other photo of other test location

Step-8
Now applying the initial load and then applied 1st load, 2nd load, 3rd load .... Continue to ultimate load or failure occurred.

For each load increment settlements should be observed an interval of 1, 2.25, 4, 6.25, 9, 16, 25, 60 min.
Load increment stop If settlement rate more than 0.02 mm/min. and check settlement continue hourly.
Eatch load increment shall be kept for not less than 1 hours.

The test shall be continue till 25mm (50mm in special cases) or failure occurs.
